Moving the Image

About

Moving the Image is a curated program, initiated and organized by in-tangible institute, in partnership with Light Bulb, examining the role of the moving image in contemporary art and culture in Thailand via moderated conversations, public screening events, and critical texts that focus on the need to discuss what we watch. Each event presents a particular creative practice, bringing it into conversation with a diverse audience of makers, facilitators, collaborators and supporters whose work intersects the moving image. These discussions are aimed at demonstrating the impact of collaboration and influence across disciplines, as a method to enrich creative work, in order to increase our knowledge of the power of moving images in contemporary life, in order to better understand how images today are consumed, exploited, overlooked, appropriated and more.

Upcoming Event

Moving the Image #1

24 July, 2025 at Light Bulb

Moving the Image #1 focuses on two research-based documentary works examining the impact of extractive development on indigenous communities in Northern Thailand: By the River (2013) directed by Nontawat Numenchapol and Nurturing Lives in the Forest (2024) produced by Nontawat Numbenchapol in collaboration with Dr. Marco Haenssgen, a Social Science and Development Professor at Chiang Mai University. Moving the Image #1 begins with a public screening of these films at Light Bulb, with an introduction by Nontawat.

Following this public screening in-tangible institute will host a private, moderated discussion with Nontawat, Marco, and an invited group of interdisciplinary thinkers to engage Nontawat’s motivations, methods, dilemmas and dreams. It is hoped that such discussion hones our collective awareness that the transmission of imagery, in its production, appropriation, and receipt, stirs innumerable perspectives that are worthy of investigation.
